I took the plunge last week and bought new skates. It got to the point I didn’t have much of a choice because when I was taking the skates off two weeks ago, the tongue to one of them came off in my hand. I made it work for a couple weeks, but while I had some down time during the Challenge last week, I did some skate shopping. I ended up and bought Mission Fuel AG Skates. I am a fan of Mission, my last pair (which were actually my first pair of skates ever) lasted for just a bit over 5 years.

I’ve been thinking about buying skates for about a year, but the prospect of having to break in new skates is something I wasn’t looking forward to. In fact, two years ago when I cracked the part of the skate that holds the blade, I replaced that part rather than buying new skates.

However, these new skates have broken in great! I wore them for the first time yesterday at Ronnie’s and those two hours felt pretty good. A few things to get used too, but on the whole, the debut of the skates was a success. So much so, in fact, that I wore them for the Ordinals game last night, and that was good too. I had been worried about getting the skates feeling good before the Outgames, and I’m happy to know that it’s not going to be an issue at all. There’s one rubbing point just above my foot, just about where the tongue of the boot is… and I’m sure that will be a non-issue in a week or two.

So, post game last night, I laid the Mission Amp 7s to rest in the garbage can of the lockerroom. RIP.
