Jeff and I got back late last night from the 2016 Dreamspinner Press Authors Workshop, which was held at the Gaylord Palms resort in Orlando Florida, and it was wonderful.
Dreamspinner has been holding these get togethers for years and I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to attend. The event is for DSP authors, of which I am not one… yet. Jeff is published with DSP and we’ll be co-writing a book together in the near future, so I’m a DSP aspirant.
The workshop is a terrific, low-key event, that brings together everyone in the DSP family to chat, talk shop and make plans for the coming year. There were several workshops focusing on different aspects of the publishing process: Craft, marketing, business. My favorite was the talk given by dynamo Damon Suede about Scene & Sequel. I’m thrilled that I’m not the only one who geeks-out about Dwight V. Swain’s concepts.
What really makes this event unique is that Anne, Lynn, and Elizabeth are so open and willing to sit down with anyone and discuss upcoming projects, career or just about anything writing related. Jeff and I pitched a couple of ideas that were met with interest, though ‘pitched’ is a bit too high-pressure to describe what actually happened. We had ‘chats’ that should lead to some interesting opportunities in the coming months.
I had a splendid time and want to thank everyone behind the scenes who made it possible. I hope I get the chance to go again next year.
