This is a scene from this morning after Hurricane Irene (or Tropical Storm Irene, depending on who is reporting) made landfall at Coney Island. The scenes of devastation from Tuscaloosa are unbelievable. My mom and I moved to Tuscaloosa in July 1978 and it was my home until June 1993 and my mom continues to live there. We’d chatted early Wednesday morning while I was on the Acela traveling from New York to Providence where I was working for [...]

The thing to do downtown over the past day has been to go see what there is to see of US Airways 1549, which was brought down to lower Manhattan and tied off to the seawall just north of the Battery Park City commuter ferry terminal. Obviously the police are keeping people and a distance, [...]
I’ve been in Chicago since yesterday for work. There is a good deal of snow on the ground and more fell overnight. Here are some pictures I took this morning at my hotel in Lombard (a Chicago suburb). My favorite pic is of these icicles! Here are the rest (click on the thumbnails to see [...]

I went up on the roof of the office building and shot some video and you can see some of these super large flakes for yourself. [...]
