Air Quiality Action Days

Jeff -

Sounds like some kind of sale, right?
Sadly it’s not. Today is the first day of what is forecasted to be a four-day heatwave. Ick! (A heatwave is officially defined as three days or more with temperatures over 90 degrees). Today it hits 91 and tomorrow through Tuesday it’s headed for 95. With the humidity factored [...]

Windows Open!

Jeff -

The weather continues to be amazing here. It was a bit cloudy Saturday night/Sunday morning, but that cleaered off in the afternoon. Tempeatures are perfect. We’ve had windows open the past several days and nights. I love sleeping with the windows open when it’s like this. It’s on the cool side, but it makes perfect [...]

No Jacket Required

Jeff -

What an amazing day! After a very, very foggy start, the sun came out and it was in the mid-70s today. An all around perfect spring day. I spent lunch time in Bryant Park (this is not a picture from today, but certainly representative of what today was like…including no one on the grass because [...]

Winter Storm Warning!

Jeff -

Going to bed last night, we had a winter weather advisory posted from the National Weather Service. That basically means, “hey, it might snow or sleet in the next day or two.” Lately these advisories don’t mean much.
This morning its turned into a Winter Storm Warning, which means “significant amounts of snow… sleet… and ice [...]

Has Anyone Seen NYC’s Missing Snow?

Jeff -

The New York Sun reports that this January is the first in 75 years that there has been no measurable snowfall in the city! According to the paper: The National Weather Service monitoring station located at the Central Park Zoo has recorded only two other Januaries since records began in 1869 where [...]

Winter Strom Disappointment

Jeff -

We were too near the mix/snow line today. It snowed for about 30 minutes total in the 11:00 hour. For a bit there it was looking like perfect skating weather. But nooooooo. By noon it was a sloppy rain/sleet/freezing rain mix that dashed all hope for any kind of Charlie Brown Christmas moment today.

Winter Weather Advisory

Jeff -

NYC (and much of the tri-state) is under a winter weather advisory today. Snow (mixing with a little sleet and rain) is predicted for much of the day. It’s supposed to be mostly snow this morning and early afternoon with 2 to 5 inches of accumulation possible.
Now, what I’m hoping for is a decent snow [...]

Snowy Wakeup

Jeff -

A pleasant surprise this morning! I knew there was supposed to be a wintry mix of weather today, but it hadn’t been expected to really accumulate since it was supposed to be more rain than snow. Well, when I got up there was a nice coating on the ground, and it’s still coming down. Here’s [...]

Wintry Saturday

Brrrr… We’ve gone from near 70 on Thanksgiving day (which, of course, was great weather for the parade) to the current temperature of 26 with a wind chill of 19. I like the cold just fine, but I’m not a fan of the harsh wind chill. At least the sun is out though. It’s been [...]

Blustry Saturday

Jeff -

Has anyone seen a flying Piglet? It’s been crazy windy today as the remnants of Hurricane Noel came near us. We didn’t get any rain in the city, although Long Island did. But we got some pretty amazing wind today. With the temperature only in the mid-40s to low-50s there was some windchill in the [...]
