Magic Mike

Does the plot of Magic Mike even matter when a considerable portion of the film features Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez and Matthew McConaughey in various states of undress? Not so much. That the film does deliver a pretty solid story is icing on the cake. I shouldn’t have doubted [...]

‘Magic Mike’ Circa 1983

A Night in Heaven stars Christopher Atkins (in all his post-Blue Lagoon glory) and the incomparable Leslie Ann Warren and is directed by John G Avildsen, the guy who directed Rocky! This is an earnest little melodrama. It’s unfortunately not nearly as trashy as it looks, but there’s still lots to love about it. Check out [...]

Prometheus

Well, I’m mixed on Ridley Scott’s new sic-fi film (and sort of Alien prequel) Prometheus. There are spoilers coming up, so read on at your own risk. To hit the good stuff first, I did love the visuals and the 3D. I’m usually skittish of dark 3D movies, but Scott did his homework with 3D [...]

I Never thought I’d See the Day

The legendary “lavender western” Johnny Guitar is coming to blu-ray Aug. 7th. I’m a pretty big fan of this one for rather obvious reasons.

Marvel has been smart from the beginning in getting ready to unleash The Avengers, showing us the individual heroes. Iron Man, Thor and Captain [...]

The Car

The Car is literally Jaws on wheels and it’s one of my all-time favorite movies. John Landis is right, it’s pretty dumb, but I don’t think he quite appreciates how awesomely cuckoo-bannanas it is. Be sure to check it out. You’ll thank me.

Dolls “1981″

Below is the TBS commercial for the rebroadcast of the TV miniseries Valley of the Dolls “1981″. It’s not nearly as camp as the ’67 big screen version, but it certainly has it’s own trashy charm.
