This Writer’s Life – Updates
Posted by in Writing | Tagged ,

Okay, it’s been forever since I’ve talked about what’s going on with my writing. Truthfully, there hasn’t been a whole lot going on, but here are a few updates anyway. My story Partners, which was to appear in the anthology Superqueeroes, has been put on hold indefinitely. The publisher was sold and the fate of this particular anthology is still up in the air. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. I’ve been busy updating CCT. Be sure to check out the Halloween hilarity that’s on hand with my latest review for The Brainiac. I’ve been reading some Doc Savage reprints to get the feel for old skool-style pulps in preparation for this years NaNoWriMo. More on that later. I’m also in the early stages of a short story for an upcoming erotic anthology focusing on firemen. Should be hot *wink*. More on that one later as well.

Funny Face

The 50th Anniversary Edition DVD of Funny Face has just hit the stores and if you’ve never seen this musical gem then do so now. Below is a clip of Fred Astaire and Kay Thompson singing “Clap Yo Hands”, a comedic number in which they go undercover as a beatnik couple from Tallahassee in order to save the virtue of Audrey Hepburn. I’ve blogged about Kay Thompson before and I absolutely adore her. She is the only person on planet earth who could out sing and out dance Fred Astaire. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

Pet Peeves: Magazine Redisigns
Posted by in Life in General | Tagged

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s when a magazine “freshens up” it’s look. ARGH! It seems every time I flip the to the page with the masthead, there’s a new name at the top and 99.99% of the time that new editor has a fresh new “vision.” DOUBLE ARGH! I understand that the magazine business is volatile and there’s a lot of turnover, but it seems to be a particular problem with the gay mags. The latest culprit is The Advocate. Their new look is sleeker and more modern, with a slightly more serious/newsy tone. Newsflash: Two different type fonts on the same page doesn’t make you modern. It’s freaking stupid!

Okay, rant over.

Only one week to go!!!
