U.S.S. New YorkThe U.S.S. New York made its NYC arrival yesterday sailing up the Hudson River to her temporary home at Pier 88, located next to the aircraft carrier Intrepid. The battleship is special to New York becuase there are 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center in its bow.

The ship paused on its way up the Hudson at North Cove to pay its respects to the World Trade Center site directly across West Street. The ship stopped, fired off a 21-gun salute and was serenaded by bagpipes. Since North Cove is our backyard, Will shot this video of the arrival.

The battleship will be officially commissioned this Saturday and remain at Pier 88 through next Thursday when it will depart New York to begin its active service in the U.S. Navy Fleet.
