I like Alanis Morissette, even back into her You Can’t Do That On Television days. But this song his her crowning achievement. “Uninvited” was the first song she released after the mammoth success of the Jagged Little Pill album and it was written by her for the soundtrack to the 1989 film City of Angels. The song was a huge success: topping the Billboard charts, winning two Grammys (Best Rock Song and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television). It was also Golden Globe nominated for Best Song from a Motion Picture (how it missed getting a Oscar nomination for Best Song is something I don’t understand).

For me, the movie wasn’t that great but this song is all kinds of awesome. The mix of the music and Alanis’ voice is sublime and the crescendo this song builds too is fantastic. Give a listen to the clip, which includes the full instrumental ending to the song. It should make for a great addition to your Friday.
