A good playoff season so far as the critical contest I was paying attention to went into six games. Last night Detroit pulled off a double overtime victory over Calgary. I’m glad it’s over now so Detroit is solidly in the second round.

On the flip side, I’m sad that Pittsburgh couldn’t do better against Ottawa. The Penguins only won one of the five games, and ended up shut out of the last one. I was really hoping they’d pass the first round.

Among the other contests: Most excellent that the Rangers got past Atlanta, especially since the sixth-ranked Rangers were the underdogs there, playing against the third ranked Atlanta. New York swept the series! It was also good to see San Jose advance. I’m a minor fan of that team since I saw a few games there while I was living in California.

Tonight Dallas and Vancouver wrap up the first round with game 7. I’m pulling for Vancouver in this one if only because I enjoy watching Vancouver play so much.

I’m already looking forward to round two since the Red Wings, Rangers and San Jose are through. Much more exciting already than last year’s playoff sequence when I lost most of my teams in round one.
