Another Win plus Improving Wrist Shots

Jeff -

Wow! Second week in a row to bring in a win. This time out it was a Tigers win, 5-4 over the Rampaging Moose. It was a good win for us to make to as it helps out the other NYCGHA teams — the Rockets and Hotshots — with their playoff hopes. The Tigers have [...]

Finally A Win…

Jeff -

It’s been a long dry spell between wins… on either team… but the Ordinals pulled off a win last night against BNP, 4-3.
The team had some good hustle last night, and the second period slump was less of a slump that it had been in recent weeks. That was critical because BNP was fast and [...]

The Hockey Manifesto - Words to Live By

Jeff -

I promise never to be outhustled. I will play both ends of the ice, fight for every loose puck. I will sacrifice my body for the team. I will always choose grit over flash, substance over style. I will work, and sweat, and suffer, so that—come game time—my team can shine!
I found these words on [...]

Playing Outside

Jeff -

The Ordinals had their last practice of the season last night at Lasker rink, which sits at the northern edge of Central Park. We’ve had five or six of these practices over the fall season and I made it to two of them — hauling my gear out of Sky Rink is never a proposition [...]

At least it was fun…

Jeff -

Saturday was another loosing hockey night. Both teams lost to some large margins — Tigers shut out 0-6 and Ordinals nearly shut out with 1-8.
The upside was that the games were at least a good time. The Ordinals played the Wizards, and they are always good for a fun game. What made the game even [...]

A Losing Night

Jeff -

Last night was not a good one for the teams I play on.
The Ordinals went up against the Sled Dogs, the lowest ranked team in our division and one that we should’ve beaten. It was clear, however, that three weeks off — and being snowed out of our practice Thursday at Lasker — took its [...]

Going to the Outgames

Jeff -

Wow! I’m going to Montreal for the 1st World Outgames! I got the news this past Sunday from the captain of the NYCGHA’s Wizards. I don’t play for the Wizards, instead I play against them on the Ordinals. But, I’ve known the Wizards’ captain, Johannes, since a bit before I joined the NYCGHA back in [...]

June 2002 - The First Chelsea Challenge

Jeff -

Jeff played in the NYCGHA’s Chelsea Challenge Tournament, in late June. Gay hockey players from across the North America (and even one from Spain) came to NYC to play. Jeff’s team — Team Red — made it to the semifinals before being eliminated by Team Blue.
Here is the Team Red’s photo (Jeff is standing in [...]

The First Hockey Blog From 2001 & 2002

Jeff -

The quest to become a hockey player started back in Fall 2001. At the time, I was keeping a sporadic diary of how it was going learning how to skate and then learning how to actually play the game. It’s appropriate that the first entry of the new blog has the history of those classes. [...]
